Robin Williams Movies
Datewise :
Popeye (1980)
Filmmaker Robert Altman brings the old cartoon character to the large screen
and Robin Williams portrayal and mimicry brings the character alive.
Buy
That World according to Garp (1982)
The reviews say that this is a great adaptation of John Irving's book. In
which case it should be some movie coz the book was one of my all time
favorites.
Buy
The Tale of the Frog Prince (1982)
Hilarious version of a children's fairy tale
Buy
The Survivors (1983)
Robin Williams and Walter Matthau together. Sounds like a super team. But
reviewers are divided on whether this is terrific movie or a terrible one !
;-)
Buy
Moscow on the Hudson (1984)
Robin Williams speaking Russian and playing the sax as a defector settled in
the US.
Buy
The Best of Times (1986)
Glenn Lovell at Amazon writes about this movie ... "This
shaggy-dog fable barely drew fleas when it arrived in the winter of 1986. Now
critics refer to it as a winning, offbeat classic."
Buy
Seize the Day (1986)
One of Williams' most serious roles. Based on Nobel prize winning author Saul
Bellow's work of the same name.
Buy
Club Paradise (1986)
Another movie that didn't do too well in spite of loaded star cast including
Rick Moranis, Andrea Gross, Eugene Levy, and Robin Duke, as well as Jimmy
Cliff and Peter O'Toole.
Buy
Good Morning, Vietnam (1987)
Tom Keogh, Amazon reviewer writes - "Based on the real-life experiences
of deejay Adrian Cronauer, the film is actually more concept than story: put
Williams in front of a microphone and let him go nuts". And boy what a
show Williams put on. This is a 'not to be missed' movie.
Buy
The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (1989)
A wild movie by Monty Python's Terry Gilliam with crazy
special effects to bring up such sights as a horse divided in half and running
around in two parts, and a giant Robin Williams with his head flying off his
shoulders.
Buy
Dead Poet's Society (1989)
One of my absolutely favorite movies. This is one movie YOU JUST CANNOT MISS.
Robin plays an absolutely awesome and inspiring role as a teacher. It should
be compulsory in schools. (Especially for all the teachers ! ;-)
Buy
Cadillac Man (1990)
Robin Williams as a desperate Queens car salesman. Should have been hilarious
but the reviews are mixed about this one.
Buy
Awakenings (1990)
Starring Robert De Niro and Robin Williams this movie was nominated for Oscars
for best movie, best actor and best screenplay.
Buy
Hook (1991)
Robin plays an adult Peter Pan in this this Steven Spielberg movie. It
also has Dustin Hoffman as Captain Hook and Julia Roberts as Tinkerbell.
"People, I ask you, who is better at playing at a person who refuses to
grow up than Robin Williams?. I don't think the part could have been better
cast. Dustin Hoffman as Captain Hook is an image to behold. It's a classic
Hoffman performance. Keep an eye out for cameos by Phil Collins, Glenn Close,
and a very young Gwynneth Paltrow" says Barry a Top 500 Amazon reviewer.

don't miss checking out the trivia about this film ;)
Buy
The Fisher King (1991)
A great drama/comedy co-starring Jeff Bridges. Robin comes up with a great
role which according to quite a few reviewers should have won him an Oscar.
Buy
Toys (1992)
Another love it or hate it movie. As far as I recall I had quite enjoyed
it.
Buy
Mrs. Doubtfire (1993)
Another of my favorite movies. Robin as the voice artist is amazing. Of course
I watched and enjoyed the entire movie several times but the part where he is
doing the voice over for a cartoon right at the beggining of the movie and
where he is explaining what he does for a living to the court observer are
worn out in my VHS. (No wonder the buy link below takes you to the DVD
;-)
Buy
Being Human (1994)
I'm not sure whether this film is worth buying, but it's worth following the
buy link to read
Marshall Fine's Fine review of it. ;-)
Buy
Nine Months (1995)
A movie which reviewers tear to shreds for tons goof ups. However it has Robin
playing the role of bungling Russian Doctor ... which should be quite
interesting.
Buy
Jumanji (1995)
If you think Board Games are boring, you've got to see this movie. Check
out how the dice rolls for you !! ;-)
Buy
Jack (1996)
Francis Ford Coppola comes up with a human drama that you can't decide is
sad or funny. Robin does a great role of 10 year child in a 40 year olds body.
Buy
The Bird Cage (1996)
A raging (or should that be raving) comedy by Mike Nichols scripted by
Elaine May based on the French comedy La Cage aux Folles. A star cast
comprising of Robin, Natahan Lane, Gene Hackman, Dianne Wiest and Calista
Flockhart (of Ally McBeal fame) all giving stellar performances make it
a movie not to be missed.
Buy
Good Will Hunting (1997) (Oscar - Best Supporting Actor)
A classic movie, with Robin playing a superb role of a psychiatrist
battling with a child prodigy who has always managed to stay one step ahead of
all the other therapists he has had to endure.
Buy
Flubber (1997)
Disney's remake of Absent Minded Professor with Robin as the professor who
can't remember his wedding and stuff. Has some hilarious scenes and most of
all his floating robot Weebo is a treat.
Buy
What Dreams may come (1998)
This movie is a must see for everyone who thinks they know the definition
of love or its boundaries. It also is a lesson in the repercussions of living
life without the seeking oneself.
Buy
Patch Adams (1998)
People either love this movie or hate it. I LOVE it. I also think everyone
should see it and decide whether they love it or hate it. (If you love it too
maybe we should get together and have a chat over a couple of beers. How about
sometime tomorrow ... your place ? ;-)
Buy
Jakob the Liar (1999)
A movie about the holocaust in which as Robin mentioned in one of his
interviews he had to be extremely careful with his humor.
Buy
Bicentennial Man (1999)
Based on Isaac Asimov's short story of the same name it has Robin playing
a robot that strives to be human.
Buy
One Hour Photo (2002)
Robin Williams turns serious. I hear he does a super job at it too. (Hope
he won't cut down on the comedies.)
Buy
Insomnia (2002)
First he turns serious and the he turns killer. And this time he's not
killing you with his jokes. What on earth is Robin up to ? But then he does a
great job and has fun doing the role. Asked how he felt about working opposite
Al Pacino in this movie Robin answered - "It was great to work with him.
It's like playing with the best. It's like hitting balls with Andre Agassi and
you can get it back over the net."
Buy
Death to Smoochy (2002)
Finally a comedy again, Robin teams up with Danny De Vito to come up with
laugh out loud satire.
Buy
Please note that the buy links take you to Amazon.com in case
you'd like to buy the dvds/videos. I have left out certain movies like Dead Again
1991, Hamlet 1996, Deconstructing Harry 1997, in which Robin had small roles.
