“If there are no stupid questions, then what kind of questions do stupid people ask? Do they get smart just in time to ask questions?” – Scott Adams
I think Scott Adams phrase is interesting because on the one hand, it’s true that there’s really no such thing as a stupid question. Asking questions is how we learn and grow, and it’s always better to ask something you don’t know than to pretend you do.
However, there are certainly questions that are unhelpful, repetitive, or unnecessary, and those might be what some people consider “stupid” questions. So I guess the answer to the second question is no, people don’t necessarily get smarter just in time to ask questions – but hopefully asking questions does make them smarter in the long run!
“Roses are red, violets are blue, I’m schizophrenic, and so am I.” – Oscar Levant
I’m not sure if it’s meant to be humorous or serious. Schizophrenia is a serious mental illness that affects a person’s perception of reality, so it’s not really something to joke about. However, some people might interpret the quote as a way of saying that everyone has different sides to themselves or different perspectives, which could be an interesting thought to explore.
“I have never been hurt by what I have not said.” – Calvin Coolidge
I felt these words by Calvin Coolidge is true in a literal sense – if you don’t say something, it can’t hurt you. However, I think there are also situations where not speaking up can be harmful, either to yourself or to others. So while there’s some wisdom in being careful about what you say, I don’t think it’s always best to keep quiet.
“Friendship is like peeing on yourself: everyone can see it, but only you get the warm feeling that it brings.” – Robert Bloch
This piece of word by Robert Bloch is definitely humorous, and I can see the point the author is trying to make – that friendship is a personal experience that can be difficult to fully explain or share with others. However, I’m not sure I would use the comparison to peeing on oneself, as that might be off-putting to some people!
